April 3rd - SS Report Cards Sent Home Today!

Parents and Students,  thank you so much for your patience during my leave of absence.  I wanted to let you know that students will be receiving their 3rd-9 week report cards today, Friday, April 3rd.  If you have any questions regarding the report cards, please contact our Assistant Principal Ms. Antonio.

As of today, I am scheduled to return to teaching on April 20th.  I miss all of my students and look forward to being back at McClure.  I hope everyone has a wonderful spring break!

3/23 - Hello to my AC GA History Students

Hi students, well 10 days has turned into a very long absence and I am sure you have heard by now that I will be out until April 20th!  My knee turned out to be a bit more of an issue than was thought which caused for more recovery time and then I came down with pneumonia within a week of my knee surgery.  Although I only spent 2 days in the hospital, my doctors are wanting to make sure I do not have a relapse and that I have time to properly heal from both pneumonia and knee.

I do miss all of you, especially, right when we get to my favorite unit - The Civil War!

Okay, a couple of notes now that I am on my laptop:

-I have graded and returned your government centers & they are on I-Parent as well as your last test.  Some of you had missed days and need to turn in work, some are just missing your center work (ex. you turned in cartoon drawing but not the task sheet and I averaged those two grades so you need to turn in both!).

-I let Mr. Arnold know who of you needed to make-up tests.

-I am hoping I will have your Manifest Destiny One-Pagers (that you did a week or so ago) sent home to me within the next few days. I would like to get those graded when I am able.

Because your grades were delayed on your report card (I am really sorry) we can get the above in so it will not be seen as missing on your I-Parent grade and then I can grade and submit - no promises on what day though - I have only just started back and work on school things a small amount as I can. Okay, I think that is it for now. Take care.

7th Grade SS Project - World Hunger Newsletter

Students, today we continued to work in our learning groups as we studied World Hunger.  I have assigned you an "at home" project which is due this Friday.  You will use the knowledge and information you gained from your learning centers to write your newsletter.  Don't forget your pictures!  Neatness and creativity always count!  I have attached a copy of the rubric in case you need another copy.

7th Grade Field Trip

Parents and Students,

7th grade students will be going on a field trip to see the Terra Cotta Warriors and King Tut on Thursday, April 2nd.  We need all permission slips returned by Wednesday, March 11th (these were sent home on 2/27).  Students will need to bring a sack lunch from home.  We are very excited about this great learning opportunity!

2/27 7th Grade SS - Need Square/Cube Tissue Boxes for project

Today my classes joined Mrs. Mullen's SS students and we watched a very good movie titled Invisible Children.  This movie is about the children in Sudan and Uganda.  I know it had to make our children feel fortunate to live where they do and at the same time to feel saddened to see what the children of Africa face on a daily basis.

This week, we have also been completing centers on child hunger in Africa and next we will discuss AIDS in Africa.

AC GA HISTORY - Ch. 16 Test next Tues&Wed

AC Ga History students should prepare for their Ch. 16 Test which will be next Tues/Wed (depending on A-Day or B-Day).  Study your class notes, text book, and webquest.  I am also attaching notes we have taken in class in case you do not have them with you this weekend or have misplaced them and a copy of the webquest key for A - Day students.  Make sure you review your vocabulary as well - know the different taxes!

2/24 7th Grade SS

7th Grade Social Studies students reviewed their lesson on Kenya yesterday as well as their workbook homework from last night.  We also began discussion on the importance of notetaking skills and taking our time with quizzes as we reviewed our notes on South Africa.  Tomorrow, I will be giving back our quizzes and allowing the students one more look with their "open - book" quiz.

HW:  None

2/24 AC GA History

AC Ga History students welcomed Kennesaw City Council Member Bruce Jenkins to McClure Middle School today.  He visited our 8th grade class to help us learn about the role of local government.  Councilman Jenkins also spoke to the students about the history of Kennesaw, demographics, and the growth of our community.  The students had insightful  questions and the discussion was very interesting.  I know we all learned so much about the city of Kennesaw and most importantly how the city government works.

HW:  Thank you letters

Monday 2/23 7th Grade

Hi students, I missed you today in 7th grade SS.  I had a doctor's appointment but I know you behaved well for your substitute.  In class today, I left a Reading Comprehension lesson on Kenya.  You were to read from your text as you completed this lesson.  This paper was to be turned in before you left class.  If you had time, you could have started your homework which was to complete a worksheet on Kenya from your SS workbook.

I still have about 6 of you who have not turned in your progress report.  Your names are on the board as a reminder.  Please bring those in ASAP.

HW:  SS workbook Ch. 19/Section 4 Kenya.
